Working for Westbourne Partners

You've probably arrived here if you are interested in working for Westbourne Partners. If that's the case, you would probably like to find out a little more about us.

Westbourne Partners Ltd was set up in 2008. The two founding partners have over 15 years experience in the recruitment industry specialising in placing mid to senior level staff to the financial markets space, particularly hedge funds, in London. Both partners are firm believers in longevity and have only ever worked for one recruitment company prior to establishing Westbourne Partners.

We also have extensive experience of building and managing teams of successful staff. Alex Paterson built and was responsible for a team of recruitment consultants which between 2005 and 2008 had 0% staff turnover and has produced 2 top billers within one of the largest recruitment companies in the world. Personally, Alex was the top biller in his previous company in 2005; promoted to manager 2006; nominated for Manager of the year 2007. Between 2005 and 2008, first as a team-leader and then as a manager, grew one of the most profitable businesses within one of the world's largest recruitment companies.

Jamie Peters is one of the highest revenue generating consultant in the history of his previous company; promoted to manager 2008. He built from scratch a profit centre focussing predominantly on supply of IT staff to the Hedge Fund which was one of the fastest growing and most successful teams in the history of his previous company.

Westbourne Partners has experienced a high degree of success since inception. Building on this success and a now deep and established client base, we are looking to add consultants to our team. Successful candidate will receive intensive training in recruitment techniques such as headhunting, market-mapping and will also gain unrivalled training on the working of financial markets. We demand that the successful candidate has the ambition, personal characteristics and aptitude to become first an established, stand-alone biller, and in future, a top-biller, mentor and team leader. Given the plans that we have for our business, it is essential that the successful candidate meet these criteria.

Initially, you will shadow one of our established consultants and receive an insight into how we work day-to-day. This will involve writing adverts, targeted headhunting, briefing candidates on suitable job opportunities, leasing with clients via telephone and face to face, arranging interviews, collecting and providing market intelligence for clients and candidates. You will observe experienced consultants and gradually take on more and more responsibility as you gain more experience. Candidates that are able to progress more quickly will be encouraged to do so. Your time will be spent in the office, but also at meetings with some of the world most established financial companies; Investment Banks, Hedge Funds and other trading firms. You will therefore be presentable, smart and have an interested in financial markets.

In the medium term, we want to hire people who are interested in becoming team-leaders and mentors. As an applicant and potential future team-leader or manager, you should be aware that as a company, we strive for an environment which encourages constant internal feedback and criticism. We consider everyones opinion equally and strongly believe that in any environment, the most senior people can always learn from the most inexperienced people (and vice-versa). Junior consultants are therefore encouraged to critique senior members of the team to foster an environment whereby everyone is constantly improving.

Long-term. Genuinely, we are interested in talking you about your long-term ambitions and views. It is likely that they will shape the future of our company.

Final Interview Process

We'd like you to prepare a short presentation. This will allow us to find out a little more about you and provide a catalyst for further discussion. These are the topics that we are most interested in:

  • Your understanding of the role of a recruitment consultant
  • Why this job would interest you
  • The challenges that you think that you would face in a job like this
  • What skills that you think that you have that make you suitable for the job.
